Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend E.Huseynli / Anna Derse, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated in Baku that the activities of professional, unbiased and independent press in Azerbaijan is of great importance and is one of the factors giving impetus to the progress of democracy in the country. She was commenting on the matter regarding detained journalists. The diplomat noted that the Azerbaijani Government and the press make every effort for the development of a professional and democratic press.
" Azerbaijan has undertaken a CE commitment in the development of democracy in the country. So, the matter of independent press is very important," Derse added.
At present seven journalists are in custody in Azerbaijan.
