At approximately 2:00a.m., gun shots were fired at two Azerbaijanis, Safar Yusifov, 43, and Shohrat Sariyev, 41, in the yard of building 20/17 in Koshinskaya Street. One of the men died in the car as a result of his wounds and the second was killed as he tried to flee from the car.

The murder victims were natives of Azerbaijan's Ujar region.

A criminal case has been filed and investigations are in progress.

A submachine gun AKC-74 and ten cartridge-cases, as well as a cartridge clip of a TT pistol were discovered at the scene. According to witnesses, the offender was wearing a mask.

Sariyev rented a section at Moscow's Veshnaki market (fruit and vegetable wholesale). Yusifov was Sariyev's driver.

According to Hajiyev, Shohrat Sariyev, like his brother was an activist of the Azerbaijani diaspora. "Many Azerbaijanis worked with him," Hajiyev said.

Supposedly, the assassination has something to do with Sariyev's job. "According to the Prosecutor's Office, the assassination was not a result of national hatred. According to the initial version, Sariyev was murdered in connection with his job. Probably, somebody wanted to take his place," Hajiyev said.

The bodies will be brought home to Azerbaijan on 31 August.
