As part of measures on reviving the export-oriented and traditional sectors of Azerbaijan’s economy in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of President Ilham Aliyev, the development of tobacco growing is one of the important tasks ahead, Trend reports.
In this context, the ‘State Program for the Development of Tobacco Growing in Azerbaijan for 2017-2021’, approved by the head of state, is of great importance.
"Within this program, for the procurement, storage and processing of tobacco products produced in the country’s Tovuz district, it is planned to create a tobacco drying plant. The tobacco drying enterprise, established at Tovuz Agro Industry OJSC, has already been put into operation," the message said.
"If earlier the harvested tobacco leaves were handed over to reception points in other regions at a distance of 250-300 kilometers, which was unprofitable from an economic point of view for tobacco producers, now this problem has been eliminated, and there are ample opportunities for the development of tobacco production in Tovuz," said the message.
Chief Executive of the Mayor’s Office of Tovuz district Mammad Mammadov visited the enterprise and got acquainted with the production process.
Fifty hectares of land have been sown with tobacco in 2020. The harvesting of products began a few days ago. In a short time, about 100 tons of raw tobacco leaves were collected from the fields and transferred to the enterprise.
The production process at the enterprise is adjusted in accordance with modern technologies. For this purpose, 10 thermopilin units were purchased from Serbia.
Currently, the company employs 30 people.
During a meeting with the staff of the enterprise and farmers, Mammadov noted that the state pays the necessary attention to entrepreneurs in development of tobacco growing, and appropriate measures will regularly be taken in this area in the future.
