Share of online education in Azerbaijan exceeds global indicators - BCG

The share of online education in Azerbaijan was higher than in other countries in 2020, Trend reports citing a report of the US Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and The Network.

“Last year, Azerbaijan accounted for 56 percent against the global average of 48 percent, and thereby showed excellent dynamics compared to 2018, when this figure was 26 percent,” the report said.

“As much as, 71 percent of Azerbaijanis study independently, which significantly exceeds the world average of 62 percent. The least popular are state programs, which are chosen by 21 percent of Azerbaijani respondents, compared to 16-percent worldwide indicators. However, the indicator of state programs in Azerbaijan has grown sevenfold since 2018, when it was 3 percent,” according to the report.

“Among those surveyed in Azerbaijan, 50 percent spend time on a high secondary and secondary vocational education, 80 percent - on bachelor's degree, 85 percent - on master’s degree and 88 percent - on doctoral studies. Totally, 72.1 percent spend a lot of time on training, 22.1 percent - some time, 5.9 percent - do not spend it at all,” the report reads.

The report also says that 71 percent of Azerbaijanis surveyed in 2020 studied independently, 60 percent at work, 56 percent - through online educational institutions, and 46 percent - through conferences and seminars.

The data compiled for the report ‘Analysis of Global Retraining Trends and Career Pathways’ by BCG and The Network.
