Azerbaijan decreases volume of loans issued to transport and communications sector

The volume of loans issued to the transport and communications sector in Azerbaijan from January through August 2021 decreased by 16.9 percent, or 153.3 million manat ($90.1 million), compared to the same period of 2020 – from 901.8 million ($530.4 million) to 748.5 million manat ($440.2 million), Trend reports, citing statistics from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The share of this sector in the total lending to the real sector was 4.8 percent (a decrease of 1.3 percent over the year).

Total lending to the real sector of the economy from January through August 2021 increased by 915 million manat ($538.2 million), or 5.86 percent, year-on-year – from 14.6 billion ($8.5 billion) to 15.6 billion manat ($9.1 billion).

The volume of short-term loans in this sector, with the exception of loans issued by non-bank credit organizations and excluding non-performing loans, amounted to 113.4 million manat ($66.7 million), or 15.16 percent of the total volume of loans issued. Loans in manat currency accounted for 25.9 million manat ($15.2 million), in foreign currency – 87.5 million manat ($51.4 million).

Long-term loans accounted for 634.3 million manat ($373.1 million), or about 84.9 percent of the total volume of loans issued to the transport and communications sector. Of these, loans in national currency accounted for 130.8 million manat ($76.9 million), in foreign currency – 503.5 million manat ($296.1 million).
