Azerbaijan considers expanding list of imported tax exempt equipment

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 27

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The list of equipment imported to Azerbaijan, exempt from taxation, may be expanded in the future, Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis (parliament) deputy Hikmat Babaoglu told Trend.

According to Babaoglu, the equipment imported to Azerbaijan, which will be used for the construction and restoration work of Karabakh, has already been exempt from taxes in the energy and communication sectors, and this step can be called a driver of the development of this region.

"In this direction, if necessary, in the future, we can consider other sectors that can be exempt from taxes," he said.

Babaoglu noted that the liberated territories of Azerbaijan have great economic potential, and assessment work is currently being carried out in various sectors.

"Work is underway to assess the potential of the industrial sector, underground mineral resources, the agricultural sector, as well as the potential of non-ferrous metals. It is noted that the production of agricultural products in the liberated territories, in particular, in East Zangazur, has the greatest potential," he said.

The MP noted that industrial zones and parks are being created in the liberated territories, which will contribute to increasing the production potential of Azerbaijan.

"Industrial zones are already being created in the Aghdam district, as well as in Araz Valley economic zone. The creation of these two zones speaks of the great economic potential of our region. The implementation of all these initiatives both in the liberated territories and in other districts of Azerbaijan will make a great contribution to the growth of the industry and economy of Azerbaijan," he added.

To date, the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) has received 929 applications from entrepreneurs wishing to open a business in the liberated territories. Of these, 441 applications relating to investment projects, 488 - to the implementation of contract work. 27 percent of applications are for construction, trade and services, 20 percent for industry, 18 percent for agriculture, and 8 percent for the sectors of tourism, health, education, culture, transport and logistics.

Also, 111 applications were directed for investments in Shusha, 109 - in Aghdam, 62 - in Fuzuli, 49 - in Kalbajar, 25 each in Khojavand and Jabrayil, 28 - in Zangilan, 21 - in Gubadli and 13 - in Lachin. Also, 485 participants are interested in starting a business in any part of Karabakh.
