Azerbaijan increases its food imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 23. Azerbaijan imported over 337,757 tons of food products in January through February 2022, up by 48.6 percent compared to the same period in 2021, Trend reports citing the Azerbaijan State Customs Committee (SCC).

According to the committee, Azerbaijani food import value increased by 22.36 percent, or $360,510, up to nearly $1.97 million.

In the reporting period, Azerbaijan delivered over 7,185 tons of meat worth $12,131, 2,060 tons of milk ($2,889), 2,726 tons of dairy products ($14,723), 84,745 tons of vegetables and fruits ($48,710), 1,745 tons of tea (over $8,378).

The country also imported more than 181,009 tons of wheat, barley, corn, and rice totaling $66,829.

Imports of vegetable fats and oils reached about 31,058 tons in the amount of over $67,733.

During this period, Azerbaijan reduced the import of tobacco and tobacco products by 24.9 percent compared to January through February 2021, decreasing to around $10,873.

Imports of pharmaceutical industry products in quantitative terms declined by 8.85 percent, or 456.42 tons, down to 4,700 tons compared to the same period in 2021, and in value terms – increased by 47.50 percent, or $38,490, amounting to $119,507.
