BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) disclosed the average global food price index for March 2022, Azerbaijani State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Market Control under the Ministry of Economy told Trend.

This figure amounted to 159.3 percent, which is the highest level in the history of FAO, the service said.

Last month, the average food price index grew by 12.6 percent compared to February and by 33.6 percent on annual basis.

Meanwhile, the grain price index was 170.1 points, another record indicator in the history of FAO. This figure increased by 17.1 percent in monthly terms and by 37.3 percent compared to March 2021.

According to the FAO report, the vegetable oil price index in March this year rose to 248 points, up by 23.2 percent from the previous month and 56.1 percent from March last year.

The consumer price index for dairy products in March 2022 amounted to 142.5 points, having increased by 2.6 percent compared to February, and by 23.6 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the same index for meat products slightly increased, reaching 120 points. This indicator grew by 4.8 percent compared to February, and by 19 percent on annual basis.

Besides, according to the FAO, the consumer price index for sugar in the world reached 117.9 points. This figure increased by 6.7 percent compared to February and by 22.6 percent year on year.

The increase in world prices is mainly due to the disruption of the supply chain, the high global demand for food products and the increase in energy prices, added FAO.
