Turkish Istanbul airport sees surge in passenger traffic for September 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. Passenger traffic at Istanbul International Airport in Türkiye considerably increased in September 2022, Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told TurkicWorld, Trend reports on October 25.

According to the ministry, this figure amounted to over 47.57 million people, up by 90 percent on annual basis.

Passenger traffic at the airport on local flights in September this year grew by 62 percent, amounting to 12.18 million people, and on international flights – by two times, equaling 35.38 million people.

During the reporting month, the airport’s cargo turnover edged up by 73 percent compared to September 2021, standing at 1.87 million tons.

The airport’s local cargo turnover was 149,363 tons (an increase of 33 percent in annual terms), and international cargo turnover – 1.87 million tons (an increase of 78 percent).

Besides, according to the ministry, the number of flights performed in September 2022 was 313,778, which is 63 percent more than in September 2021. At the same time, the number of flights performed on local lines was 82,368 (up by 46 percent), and on international lines – 231,410 (a growth of 69 percent).

Meanwhile, passenger traffic at all airports in Türkiye amounted to 137.69 million people, and cargo turnover – three million tons.

Last year, passenger traffic at all airports of the country made up 128.3 million people, and cargo turnover – 3.3 million tons.
