BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16. Azerbaijan is considering several options for the implementation of the green electricity export project to Europe, Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, said in an interview with LGP News magazine, Trend reports.
According to the DM, the agreement on the expansion of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU signed on July 18, 2022, envisages the establishment of new routes for the export of green energy, i.e. green electricity to Europe.
"In addition to the Southern Gas Corridor (UGC) expansion, we will also develop a green energy corridor connecting Azerbaijan to Europe. There are two effective ways to carry out this initiative: through the mainland of Azerbaijan, the Zangazur corridor and Nakhchivan from Azerbaijan to Turkiye and Europe, as well as through the Black Sea submarine cable through Georgia, Romania and Hungary," he explained.
Soltanov stressed that, due to the ongoing development in the field of offshore wind power and possibly hydrogen, at the moment Azerbaijan is working on assessing the ways of exporting new volumes of green electricity.
