BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 15. The Turkish ports handled over 35.48 million tons of cargo in May 2023, Trend reports.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye, over 2.5 million tons of cargo were handled by ships under the country's flag.
In May this year, more than 32.9 million tons of cargo were handled in Turkish ports by ships under the flags of other countries, the ministry said
Meanwhile, the ports handled 5.49 million tons of transit cargo.
From January through May 2023, the ports of Türkiye handled 160.76 million tons of cargo.
Moreover, in the specified period, cargo handling by ships under the country's flag amounted to 11.4 million tons, while cargo transportation through the ports by ships under the flags of other countries totaled 149.3 million tons.
During the first five months of 2023, Turkish ports handled 28.9 million tons of transit cargo.
In 2022, the Turkish ports handled over 394 million tons of cargo. The ships flying the Turkish flags transported 28.4 million tons, while ships flying the flags of other countries - 365.6 million tons of cargo.
Besides, last year, 81.01 million tons of transit cargo were handled via Turkish ports.
