Azerbaijan sets forth growth in import value of tobacco

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 19. Azerbaijan imported tobacco and tobacco products worth $105.7 million from January through November 2023, up by 18.8 percent year-on-year, Trend reports via the country's State Customs Committee.

According to State Customs Committee figures, tobacco and tobacco products imports totaled $89 million in 2022.

From January to November 2023, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover fell by 3.84 percent, or $1.8 billion, from $49.2 billion to $47.3 billion.

Exports accounted for $31.5 billion in foreign trade turnover, a $4.8 billion, or 13.27 percent, decrease year on year. Exports accounted for 66.59 percent of total foreign trade turnover, up from 73.83 percent the previous year.

Azerbaijan's imports grew by $2.9 billion, or 22.76 percent, in the above mentioned period, year-on-year, from $12.8 billion to about $15.8 billion. The share of imports in the foreign trade turnover amounted to 33.41 percent, up from 26.17 percent a year earlier.

As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover, while remaining positive from January through November 2023, declined by over $7.7 billion, or 33.06 percent, to $15.7 billion from $23.4 billion year-on-year.
