Azerbaijan significantly boosts payment card turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 3.1 billion manat ($1.8 billion), or 52.41 percent, from 6 billion to 9.2 billion manat ($5.4 billion) by the end of February 2024, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 130.234 million (up 78.73 percent over the year), including 4.87 million transactions worth 240 million manat ($141.1 million) carried out abroad.

The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to 118.998 million, or 8.6 billion manat, of which 13.536 million transactions worth 3.2 billion manat ($1.8 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 36.601 million transactions worth 697 million manat ($409.9 million) were made through POS terminals inside the country.

Through credit cards (both inside and outside the country), bank customers made 11.236 million transactions totaling 625 million manat ($367.5 million).

Meanwhile, 522,000 transactions worth 118 million manat ($69.3 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, and 5.292 billion transactions worth 168 million manat ($98.7 million) were made through POS terminals.

To note, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 3.326 million, or 23.73 percent, as of March 1, 2024, compared to the same period last year and reached 17.343 million against 14.017 million a year earlier.
