Construction of a car components plant has been launched in the Free Industrial Zone in Poti, a coastal town of Western Georgia, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

The plant is being built on a land area of 5,000 square meters. It will manufacture various types of automotive components made from Georgian and foreign raw materials supplied both domestically and from abroad.

The plant will be equipped with environmentally friendly modern technology meeting European standards. Production will be fully export oriented. As reported, the plant will export its goods to EU countries, China, the US and Mexico.

The plant is being built by SDT Georgia. Its representative, businessman Giacomo Zamatio, owns similar plants in Suzhou (China) and Milan (Italy).

At the initial stage, the company plans to export goods worth $5 million per year.

Initially, 60 people will be employed at the plant, and the number will increase to 100 people by 2021.

The company said that it has already arranged specialized training for one group of employees; the training for the second group is planned for April 2020.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in September 2020.
