Kazakhstan’s Senate (upper house of two chambers in Kazakhstan's Parliament) has approved the ‘Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments and Additions to the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Russian Federation on creation of Baiterek Rocket and Space Complex at Baikonur Cosmodrome as of December 22, 2004’ law draft, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the Senate.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry Askar Zhumagaliyev said during the law presentation that the document oversees actualization of the main condition of the project’s implementation. He added that the Russia is responsible for the rocket construction, whereas Kazakhstan is responsible for construction of the land infrastructure.
“Russian party is concerned with Soyuz-5 missile construction, test equipment at the technical and launch complexes, as well as the modernization of the technical complex, the spacecraft and is planning to allocate nearly $916 million for this,” the minister said.
He noted that Kazakhstan will be concerned with modernization of a ground space infrastructure of existing Zenit-M launch complex.
“Modernization of the launch and technical systems, overhaul and reconstruction of existing ones, as well as the construction of new ground-based space infrastructure facilities. Kazakhstan is planning to allocate $233 million for these reasons,” Zhumagaliyev said.
Kazakhstan’s Baikonur city is the administrative and living center of major Baikonur Cosmodrome. The city and the Cosmodrome together create a Baikonur complex, which Russia is renting from Kazakhstan till 2050.
