BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 21

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Uzbekistan's building materials' industry still lags behind the market demand, Bahodir Ismailov, deputy chairman of Industrial Construction Materials Association of Uzbekistan said at a business event held by Iteca Exhibitions, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Ismailov noted that in recent years, there has been a deficit in the market of basic construction materials such as cement and glass, which are imported in large quantities.

Currently, the main task of the association is to saturate the domestic market and it shall be achieved in the period from 2020 to 2021, the deputy chairman added.

“Production of construction materials, which are environmentally friendly and energy efficient in production and operation, is now the priority,” Ismailov said. “The use of thermal insulation materials has become a recent trend.”

The official added that if Uzbekistan used to import almost all types of construction materials, now the import is mainly represented by more expensive products.

"Our immediate task is to attract branded investors and companies that would supply products with added value. We are also actively developing the processing of stone", stressed İsmailov.

"The National Bank is investing about $200 million in this sphere. With these funds, will develop the production of travertine, granite and marble," he said.
