Uzbekistan begins construction of pharmaceutical cluster

The construction of the Innovative Scientific and Production Pharmaceutical Cluster Tashkent Pharma Park in Zangiata district of Tashkent region began in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction on April 17 by videoconference.

The cluster's concept and plan were approved by a presidential decree in January 2020. The project is aimed at organizing the production of innovative medicines, medical devices and equipment with high quality characteristics, training modern personnel and development of domestic pharmaceutical industry.

The cluster, which will consist of a technopark and an industrial zone, will cover 79 hectares. More than 1700 jobs will be created through the implementation of 14 investment projects.

The technopark will accommodate sectors of academic and scientific activities and the development of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmaceutical Technical University will be located here to train personnel in pharmaceutics, medical equipment, cosmetology and other fields.

The industrial zone will host the production facilities of leading pharmaceutical companies. In the future, it is planned to open foreign clinics and medical centers on its territory.

An agreement has been reached with the Cooperation Fund for Economic Development of the Eximbank of South Korea on financing scientific and educational structures of the cluster with a long-term loan.

Directorate of the cluster have been established, and the functions of the Directorate will be performed by the Agency for Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry under the Uzbek Ministry of Health.
