Georgia begins construction of Batumi International Airport's new terminal

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30

Georgia's Batumi International Airport is expanding, Trend reports referring to the press service of the government administration.

The project aims to expand the arrival zone by 30 meters and the departure zone by 40 meters. TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, is investing $14 million in the implementation of the project.

As reported, the empowerment of another international airport will prove impactful for the country's economy and competitiveness in attracting tourists in the post-pandemic period.

Construction work is expected to be completed in February 2021.

After expansion, Batumi International Airport will serve 1.20 million passengers a year.

On June 29, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, together with Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava and Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze attended a ceremony marking the beginning of the construction of the new terminal.
