By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Chinese investors have the major potential for attracting cargoes to Anaklia Seaport, the Tbilisi State University Analysis and Prognosis Center director Vakhtang Charaia said, Trend reports via Georgian media.

As noted by Charaia, the Georgian Government should also collaborate with Chinese investors, besides European and American parties.

"The government should attract such investors from eastern and western countries that will not only invest money but also ensure cargo turnover. Maybe, we give priority to American and European investors, but we should also think of Chinese investors. Chinese actors are who mainly receive and send cargoes through our corridor. Thus, this project cannot be implemented without China’s engagement. China has the major potential for reception and sending of cargoes. They also have enough financial resources for implementing the project", Charaia said.

The Georgian government should not take responsibility if the project fails, he added.

"The Government should not be responsible before the investor. All advantages and threats must be the investor’s responsibility. Available losses must not be secured by the Government. The previous consortium demanded from the government to secure available losses. Therefore, the new investor must be responsible for both profits and losses", Charaia said.

As reported, on March 4 Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili unveiled plans for resuming Anaklia Seaport project implementation and attracting new investors from Europe and the US.
