Iran to offer financial incentives to increase housing construction

TEHRAN, Iran, Sep. 6

Trend:

Financial methods and packages have been predicted by civil and economic commissions in Iran's parliament for increasing housing construction, said a member of parliament's economic commission, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The plan was drafted by the civil and economic commission in order to reduce inflation caused by housing construction costs, Mehdi Toghyani has indicated.

"There are currently 300,000 housing units being built annually and it would be difficult if we want to triple it but it would have a significant effect on the country's economy and would lead to moving out of recession," he noted.

The following plan would increase demand for production and various industries that are related to housing construction.

The parliament agenda is to implement a tax on empty houses while a tax on capital is being discussed to become a law to be used in affordable housing construction plans as well.

The MP indicated that the Central Bank of Iran annually assigns a budget for economic sectors including housing and construction at the Money and Credit Council. The predicted financial aid packages in the housing construction plan would not be more than the designated quota.

The government would also provide land for housing construction based on this plan to reduce the expenses of land value from the construction process.

The new Iranian administration has predicted the annual construction of 1 million housing units for low-income citizens.

Rouhani administration has implemented the National Housing Action Plan with aims to construct 400,000 small and medium-size apartments (70-100 square meters in size) across the country and particularly in Tehran, as it also made effort to manage the Mehr Housing Plan.
