Azerbaijan, Baku / TendCapital corr. S.Aliyev / The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry is planning to commission a flyover crossing in Azadlig and Zia Bunyatov Avenues and a pedestrian crossing at the crossroads of Bulbul Avenue and Nizami Street, the Transport Ministry reported on 17 September.
The new bridge will be the fifth constructed in Baku within the framework of the program of the upgrade of the transport infrastructure. In total nine flyover crossings are planned to be constructed in Baku. Four bridges are being constructed near Mashadi Azizbayov metro station, the Excelsior Hotel, Khalglar Dostlugu metro and in the third micro district.
The construction of two flyover crossings may be completed by the beginning of 2008, the Ministry reported.
All construction work is being held in compliance with a decree by the Azerbaijani President on the upgrade of transport systems in Baku City for 2006 and 2007. The total cost of the project makes up AZN 300mln.
An additional 16 to 18 new bridges and flyover crossings are also being planned.
