Azerbaijan Re-Consider Exemption Customs from Import Commodities

I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijan Government is planning to re-consider the list of exemption customs duties and taxes imposed on importing commodities, Mirgasim Vagabov, the chief of the State Customs Committee on Finance-Tariff and Stock Regulation, said on 24 September. The specific gravity of released customs made up 60 or 65%.

"There are such exemption customs abused by importers," Vagabov said. There is not notion exemption in the world practice; however it is relevant for development of domestic production in some spheres of economy, Vagabov said.

The Cabinet of Ministers cancels unnecessary exemptions and re-considers them forming the budget forecasts per year. The main part of exemptions is introduced in oil contracts. Customs bodies repeatedly appealed to the government to cancel these exemptions.

The Azerbaijani oil has been delivered to the world market all necessary investments have been put into implementation of the project Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli. Therefore, the volume of imported commodities was decreased. Azerbaijan will sign agreements within the framework on creation free economic zone taking into consideration that the CIS countries remain main market for Azerbaijan commodities. In compliance with these agreements the sides are free from paying customs duties.

Customs tariffs suspended within three years once they do not justify themselves.
