Saleen S331 Sport Truck Released

( Worldcarfans ) - After pumping some fresh blood into the high-powered sport truck segment last year, Saleen has given a bit of an update to their S331 Sport Truck for the 2008 model-year, including a brand new four-door version called "SuperCrew."

Gone is the non-supercharged 3-valve version of Saleen's truck. The company sites poor sales of the model as the reason for pulling the plug.

Both the SuperCrew and SuperCab get dual 2.5 inch exhaust systems as standard. Instead of being a side-exit system, the exhaust will pump out the back of the truck as standard. An optional side-exit exhaust is available on the SuperCab.

With a redesigned supercharger, the current V-8 engine gets 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The two trim levels both get the patented Saleen RaceCraft suspension with N2 struts, linear-rate coil-over springs, a tubular anti-roll stabilizing bar, and urethane pivot bushings in the front, and live axle, leaf springs and N2 shocks in the rear.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the S331 Sport Truck," President and CEO of Saleen Inc. Paul Wilbur said.

The the trucks are capable of towing 9,500 lbs., roughly equal to four new Fiat 500s and a trailer. They also have a maximum payload capacity of up to 1,890 pounds, or one Roseanne Barr.

Saleen's S331 starts at $54,200. The company believes the truck will maintain a larger percentage of its cost at resale.
