( Worldcarfans ) - 'Green' has been the topic of the most recent motorshows so what better time to jump in on the action than the LA show for Cadillac, with the Cadillac Escalade Hybid as the result. Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager: "Escalade, already the sales and style leader among large luxury SUVs, now adds the desirability of a fuel-saving, technically advanced hybrid system." In short, this means that the Escalade goes from 12 MPG to 18 MPG in the city.
The Cadillac Escalade will be fitted with a two-mode hybrid system which consists of an advanced electrically variable transmission (EVT) and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS). During lower speeds in the city, the Escalade Hybrid can drive on electricity alone, when additional power is needed the gasoline engine will kick-in. Highway mileage remains unaffected with the Hybrid system.
Other new features include a new exhaust system and resonator specially tuned for the 6.0L LIVC engine's Active Fuel Management operation, an electrically driven, 300-volt air conditioning compressor and electrically driven, 42-volt variable-assist power steering.
GM is looking into bringing the Escalade Hybrid to Europe and a decision is expected within the next six months, but we think that the Escalade should combine a diesel with the two-mode hybrid system for it to stand a chance in Europe.
