Cargo Transportation Increases nu 14.6% in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / From January to October 2007, cargo deliveries involving all modes of transport made up 134.9mln tons, 14.6% more than in 2006

Cargo deliveries in the private sector made up 67.3%. 48.5% of the total cargo was transported by vehicle, 28.2% by pipeline (17% via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline), 17% by railway and 6.3% by ship.

Passenger transportation made up 945.8mln people (an increase of 8%), the private sector was 84.1%. Passenger transportation was mainly carried out by vehicles (84.2%) and the metro (15.1%).

Cargo transportation by railway made up 23mln tons, or 8.5% less compared to 2006.

Cargo shipping made up 8.4mln tons, or 28% less than in 2006. A drop in deliveries is explained by the cut in transit cargo. Some 61.4% of total deliveries fell to oil and oil products and the rest 38.6% on dry cargo. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations

In January to October 2007, cargo reproduced at the ports of Azerbaijan made up 4.5mln tons, or 11.8% less than last year.

Cargo transportation by automobiles made up 65.5mln tons, or 9.5% more than last 2006. Passenger transport made up 796.4mln people an increase of 7.7%. Some 96.8% of passengers were transported by bus and 3.2% by automobiles.

The amount of passengers transported by metro comprised 142.5mln and increased by 9.6%. Incomes from passenger transportation by metro made up AZN 6.9mln, or 11.3% more than last year.

Passenger travel by air rose 17.8% and comprised 1.3mln people. 5.9% of this type of passenger transport fell to the private sector.

From January to October cargo transportation by automobiles made up 32.6mln tons, with 70.3% transported via the BTC. In this period the oil loaded from the Ceyhan port made up 23mln tons of oil. Cargo shipping rose by 2.2 times as compared to last year.

Transportation via gas mains made up 7.4bln cu m, or 12.7% less than in 2006. The major reason is the cessation of gas import from Russia.

From January to September 2007 34.8mln tons of cargo and 133.6mln passengers were transported via the Eurasian corridor through using Azerbaijani territory. He cost of deliveries made up AZN 173.2mln, or 5.6% more that last year.
