( Irna ) - The temporary halt in gas supplies to Iran had only technical reasons, Turkmenistan Minister of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources Baymyrat Hojamuhammedow said on Wednesday.

Releasing a statement, a copy of which was sent to IRNA office in Ashkhabad, the Turkmen minister said, "The temporary halt of gas exports to Iran only resulted from the necessity of making some repairments leading to a better use of Turkmenistan-Iran gas pipeline."

The statement rejected some media reports that claimed Ashkhabad has completely halted its gas supplies to Iran.

The halt in deliveries of gas to Iran by Turkmenistan since December 29, caused problems for residents of several parts of Iran.

Iran imports some eight billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan each year.
