Skoda Auto sales up by 14.5 per cent in 2007

( dpa ) - Volkswagen-owned Skoda Auto sold a record of 630,032 cars in 2007, boosting its sales by 14.5 per cent year-on- year, CTK news agency reported Tuesday, citing a company spokesman.

The Czech carmaker recorded the highest sales of 327,222 cars in western Europe. Skoda sold 118,692 vehicles in Germany alone, boosting its presence on the German market from 3.4 to 3.8 per cent, the report said.

However, the automaker saw the greatest growth of 34 per cent in eastern European markets where it sold 95,032 cars last year. Skoda sold more than 27,000 cars in both Russia and China, CTK said.

According to estimates, Skoda boosted its profits after tax to some 15 billion koruny (862.5 million dollars) last year at sales of some 228 billion koruny, the report said.
