WB Begins Assessment of Third Project on Reforms in Education System of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 January / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / World Bank began to assess the third project of reforming the educational system of Azerbaijan. Fon Manuael Moreno, the senior specialist on education of WB, was on a visit to Baku and today, Rosita Maria Van der Mil, the head of the project, is visiting Baku.

The Bank is prepared to allocate a privilege credit of $25mln on the line of International Development Association.

The project covers reforms in higher education, infant school and professional-technical centres.

It will be the third credit of the bank directed towards the education system in the country..

The current educational development project is directed to reforms in the educational sphere which were passed in 1999. The key goal of the project is to increase the educational quality in the country. The total cost of the project is $20.99mln. Some $18mln of the sum fell on WB. The project was approved during the meeting of Council of Directors on 27 May 2003. The project is expected to be completed in March 2008.

The first credit was allocated in the amount of $5mln in 1999.
