( WCF ) - Chevrolet's reborn Big Dog, the Corvette ZR1, has crossed the Atlantic to greet European enthusiasts in Geneva. The most powerful production Corvette ever will be available in Europe as well as the United States when it goes on sale near the end of 2008. Chevrolet didn't release final European specifications, but the supercharged 6.2 liter LS9 V8 is rated to crank out 100 horsepower per liter and that means about 628 SAE-hp and about 807 Nm of torque.
That monstrous small-block V8 is hooked up to a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission with a twin-disc clutch, the better to survive the LS9's torque. Major suspension enhancements are also on hand to ensure that the Corvette ZR1 is manageable at high speeds.
