( dpa ) - Toyota Motor Corp is considering jointly investing in a passenger jet business to be established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, a Toyota spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The automaker spokeswoman refused to comment further on the plan.
Toyota has received request to invest about 10 billion yen (96.9 million dollars) in Mitsubishi Heavy's jet project Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), according to the Asahi Shimbun.
MRJ began developing small passenger jets with 70-90 seats in 2003 and plans to market the products by 2012.
The light-weight planes aim for fuel-efficient performance.
Toyota was expected to reach the decision by April, when MRJ is to finalize the 100-billion-yen project.
