Tokyo stocks open lower on stronger yen, US economic worries

Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower on Monday due to a stronger yen and lingering concerns about the U.S. economy after sluggish U.S. jobs data for March. ( Kyodo )

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 57.62 points, or 0.43 percent, from Friday to 13,235.60. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 4.76 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,284.18.
