Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 May / Trend / In January to April 2008, cargo deliveries involving all modes of transport has totaled 56.1mln tons, or 13.3% more than the relevant period of 2007.
Cargo deliveries in the private sector made up 67.9%. Some 43.6% of the total cargo was transported by vehicle, 34% by pipeline (20.8% via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and 1.7% via South Caucasus Pipeline), 15.9% by railway and 6% by ship.
Passenger transportation made up 383.6mln (an increase of 7.1%). Passenger transportation by vehicles made up 81.9% and the metro by 17.5%. Railway cargo transportation made up 8.9mln tons, a decrease of 6.5% from January to April 2007.
Cargo shipping comprised 3.6mln tons, a rise of 15% from the same period of 2007Some 63.8% of cargo deliveries were for oil and oil products, while 36.2% was for dry cargo. The entire amount of cargo deliveries was implemented under international operations.
The cargo reproduced at the ports of Azerbaijan in this period made up 1.9mln tons, or 21.6% more than last year. During this period cargo transportation by vehicles made up 24.4mln tons of cargo, or 6.3% less than 2007. Passenger transportation comprised 314mln people, or up by 5.4%, with 96.7% people utilizing the buses and 3.3% people utilizing vehicles.
The metro continues to be the most popular and profitable mode of transport. During this period the passenger transportation by metro rose 16.4% and made up 67.3mln passengers.
Passenger transportation by air decreased by 8.1%, constituting 374,500 people. Around 6.6% of this type of passenger transportation fell on private sector.
During this period, oil transportation via oil pipelines made up 16.6mln tons of oil, with three quarters being transported by BTC. In January to April 2008 11.7mln tons of oil was exported from Baku. Transportation via the oil pipeline mains increased by 32.2% as compared to last year. .
Last year transportation via gas mains made up 3.5mln cu m, or 73.7% more than in 2007. Some 1.5bln cu.m of gas, or 27.8% of the total, was transported via the South Caucasus Pipeline which was put into operation recently.
In the first quarter of 2007, 11.6mln tons of cargo, or the same in 2007, and 45.6mln passengers, or were transported via the Eurasian corridor. Income from transportation amounted to AZN 62.8mln, an increase of 10.4% from the last year.
