Engine Failure Caused Azerbaijani Airlines to Force-Land

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 July / Trend / The aircraft Tu-154 of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), which implements flights via the internal routes Baku-Nakhichevan, had to force-land in the Baku Heydar Aliyev 

International Airport, the Internal Ministry reported.

The aircraft had to make forced landing due to failure in one of the engines. The aircraft took off in Baku at 1:32p.m and made forced landing in Baku at 2:01p.m.

At present, the flights are implemented on the schedule.

Until the end of 2008, AZAL will purchase six French made ATR aircrafts.

The purchased aircrafts will be used, particularly, for domestic and regional flights (Nakhichivan, Ganja, Lankaran and Zakatala). The new acquired aircrafts will be able Azerbaijan to renew its aircraft park. According to the data, placed in the website of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, at present AZAL owns six Tu aircrafts. All these aircrafts will be replaced until 2009.

AZAL has placed order to the French airline enterprise and will purchase two aircrafts ATR - 42-500S and four ATR - 72-500S. Total sum of the contract is $97.2mln.
