Azerbaijani Entrepreneurs Gains Access to Norwegian Preference System

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 August / Trend corr. U.Ismayilova / Azerbaijani entrepreneurship gained the preference system (GPS) to export their commodities on preferential terms, Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry, reported on 20 August. Azerbaijan for the first time joined Norwegian GPS together with ten other countries on 1 January 2008.

In May, Norway approved new rules for the system. However, in spite of Azerbaijan is included into the program, the country had to submit certain materials to Norway.

For this reason, Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry has developed the necessary materials and submitted them to Norway in July. Later, the Ministry received a respond from Norway which informed that Azerbaijan was activated in GPS program.

At present, Azerbaijan and Georgia are united in the GPS system.

Some 100% tariff preferences are envisaged for certain commodities in the GPS program

To use there preferences entrepreneurs have to take certificate that their commodities had been controlled by the state service.

Azerbaijan uses the programs of the European Union, Canada, Japan and Turkey. In April, Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry appealed to the United States trade representative to join the GPS program.
