Trend I.Khalilova / In July 2008 the number of banks
in Azerbaijan, which work with profit, reduced from 37 to 35 banks, and as
compared to July of last year, their number remained without the changes, a
source at the National Bank of Azerbaijan.
The gross profit of the banking system, after increasing by 62.8% as compared
to 1 August 2007, totaled AZN 135.54mln. Despite reduction in July in the number
of profitable banks, the total amount of profit increased by 15.8%.
The number of unprofitable banks increased by one as compared to June, and as compared to the beginning of year - four banks. As a result, the loss of nine banks composed AZN 14.96mln, which is 2.4 times more than index as of 1 August and 4.1 times as of the beginning of 2008.
