Azerbaijan Changes Pension Accounting System

Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 October / Trend corr. U.Ismayilova/ "Pension accounting mechanism will change in Azerbaijan since 2009," Salim Muslumov, head of the State Social Protection Fund, said at the technical workshop on ICT management in social security on 2 October.

"Transition to this method is intended to provide justice in social security," he said.

At present, pensions are accumulated in Azerbaijan in conformity with the amount of salary of pensioner's last two years of labour activity.

The complaints from further pensioners have aroused the need to change the mechanism.

"The people complain that they work 30-40 years for low salary and correspondingly receive minimal pension, which is AZN 75 in the country for the time being," said Muslumov.

Muslumov believes the operating mechanism creates extra problems to pensioners.

"It is impossible to regulate issuance of references about the amount of salary received in recent two years of labour activity. Several pensioners obtain fake references so as to receive high pension, which leads to injustice. And the Fund is aware of the problems," said Muslumov.

Pension age in Azerbaijan is 62 years for men and 57 years for women. There are 1.263mln pensioners in the country.
