China says its economic growth slowed to 9 percent in the third quarter of this year, reflecting the growing toll from the global financial crisis, the Associated Press reported.

The National Statistics Bureau announced Monday that economic growth in the first nine months of the year rose 9.9 percent over the same period a year earlier. That compares with 11.9 percent growth in 2007.

Bureau spokesman Li Xiaochao said that despite interest rate cuts and other measures aimed at countering the global economic slowdown that "there are no signs of a definite recovery from the financial crisis."
