Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 November / corr Trend S. Babayev/ "Blood banks for surgical purposes will be established in the Azerbaijani territory," Ogtay Shiraliyev, health minister of Azerbaijan, said in the plenary session of the Parliament during discussion of the 2009 public budget.
"We are about to purchase required equipment and cooling stores and hold construction work. Donor blood deficiency in the region will be settled soon," Shiraliyev said. Generally, $3bln will be spent for this project next year.
The minister did not name the exact regions.
"A centralized blood bank that solved the problem concerning supply of Baku residents with blood and its components began to function after reconstruction," Shiraliyev said.
According to the health minister, 13,236 people donated blood in 2001 and in 2007 this number went
up to 31,036.
