Lufthansa faces strike by flight attendants on Wednesday

Flight attendants on German flag carrier Lufthansa are to strike Wednesday on several short-and medium-haul routes departing from Germany, their union UFO said Tuesday.

Lufthansa said it was cancelling 100 flights from Frankfurt and 22 from Berlin likely to be affected by the six-hour stoppage, dpa reported.

Last week a similar, three-hour strike led to 44 cancellations. UIFO is demanding pay increases for the attendants. The union represents only a fraction of the cabin crew and most flights are expected to take off normally.

Unions representing German railways staff said they would call pinpoint strikes on Thursday to support their own demands for pay rises from the state-run Deutsche Bahn rail company.
