Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb. 2 / Trend , E.Hasanov/
In
March, Turkmenistan will determine key directions to reform agro-industrial
complex, an official Turkmen source reported.
The Council of Elders will be convened in Turkmenabat city - the regional center
of Lebap area. This is a deliberative body composed of representatives from all
regions and operating on a voluntary basis.
According to the Turkmen press, the Council discusses issues of national
importance in order to "define optimized solutions through joint work, open
discussion, and taking into account the interests of the people"
"The State allocates huge money to development of agro-industrial complex. It
is high time to get real reimbursement," an official Turkmen source quoted Turkmen
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as saying at the latest governmental meeting.
According
to the Turkmen leader, the objective market economy laws dictate a need for
changes. Increase in agricultural production "will have a positive impact on
the level of prices in the domestic consumer market. They will be inevitably falling".
Conditions must be provided to enable "competition between public and private
sectors of the economy".
Turkmen agrarians are exploring efficient land management, introduction of advanced
agricultural technologies, improvement of management efficiency, and organization
of production. At this stage, they are studying which areas will specialize in
cultivation of grain and which will produce cotton, how many hectares of land
should be allocated. In previous years, an attempt was made to sow the Balkan
region with unfavorable climate conditions.
"2009
will be decisive in terms of increasing agricultural production," said Berdimuhamedov.
He urged for improving the profitability of agriculture, expanding export of plant
output to world markets and, above all, neighboring countries.
This year farmers will have to gather 1 million tons of raw cotton and 1.6
million tons of food grains. Cotton crop will remain at last year level and
grain harvest will increase by 600,000 from 2008.
