Today Turkmen President Gyrbanguly Berdimyhamedov begins two day visit to Iran. This visit will provide prosperity of the two brotherhood nations, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said.
There are over 170 inter state, inter governmental and inter ministerial documents in Turkmenistan's legal bases.
"The positions on a range of regional and international policy issues give productive interaction between Turkmenistan and Iran on the Caspian Sea issue," the Turkmen Dovlat Khabarlari information agency reported.
Turkmenistan and Iran support the peaceful solution of disputes and establishing of close international cooperation of those interesting sides on the Caspian Sea issue.
In 2008, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Iran reached 2.972 billion dollar compared to 1.895 billion dollar in 2007. Turkmenistan provides fuel and energy complex, textiles, light, chemical, agricultural and food to Iran. Iran exports engineering materials and chemical products, equipment and mechanicals, construction materials, economic and electric goods and foods to Turkmenistan. In 2008, Iran ranked second in Turkmenistan's foreign trade.
Turkmenistan and Iran implemented a range of major projects, including construction of the Dostluk border reservoir, Tedjen-Serakhs-Meshkhed railway, Korpaca-Krtkui gas pipeline and others.
The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Iran meet regularly. Berdymuhamedov visited Tehran in June 2007. In August 2007, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tripped to Ashgabat. Later, the two presidents met in the summit of Capean Sea countries in Tehran in October 2007. At the last meeting the sides inked a trilateral decloration with attendance of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to cosntruct the Uzen (Kazakhstan)- Kizilkaya-Bereket-Etrek (Turkmenistan)-Goran (Iran) railway.
Berdymuhamedov and Ahmadinejad will discuss prospectus and key issues of further Turkmen-Iranian cooperation.
