Almost 200 Georgian villages will have newly built roads in 2009, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in Dusheti on Feb. 24. The president presented a road construction project in the regions.

"I remember Dusheti residents demanded water, roads and gas during the presidential elections. We have supplied them with gas. We have built roads and all the roads will be repaired soon. As to water, we will solve this key issue in May," Saakashvili said.

The president said he did not forget his promises.

As to the unemployment problem, it must be resolved through all possible means, Saakashvili said.

Saakashvili promised to employ 150 local residents in constructing a road in Chalisjvari.

Georgian Road Department head Ramaz Nikolaishvili said the department will use German machinery to build the roads. A thick 18-centimeter concrete road will be laid with a 35-year guarantee.

A total of 521 million lari was allocated to construct the road, he said.

All funds have been distributed, tenders have been held and companies have been specified.
