Over 27.5 million people live in Uzbekistan: State Statistics Committee

Uzbek population increased 483,100 people or 1.8 percent in 2008, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee said.
According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, natural increase of population totaled 508,900 people in 2008. Approximately 331,800 people or 65.2 percent fell on villages. According to official information, migration balance totaled minus 25,800 people compared to minus 63,100 in 2007.
The birth rate totaled 646,400 people which 37,500 or 6.2 percent more than index of the same period in 2008. The birth rate increased from 22.6 ppm to 23.6 ppm. Significant increase of birth rate was observed in Andijan, Samarkand and Surandar regions. Low birth rate is preserved in Tashkent and Bukhara.
Death-rate increased in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Namangan and Khorezm regions. Death-rate reduced 0.1 percent compared to 2007. The highest death-rate preserved in Tashkent - 8.4 ppm. Approximately 59.3 percent died from blood circulation disease, 6.6 percent - from respiratory disease, 6.4 percent - as a result of accidents, poisoning and injuries.
Approximately 249,000 marriages and 16,100 divorces were registered in 2008.
The number of employed people totaled 11,035,400 people and increased 2.8 percent compared to 2007. The number of employed people increased owing to their employment in non industrial sphere 3.2 percent, 2.6 percent in material production.
Among material production branches the number of people is intensively increased in trade and catering (by 7.7 percent), construction (by 3.8 percent), industry (by 2.9 percent), transport and communication (by 2.3 percent).
According to the State Statistics Committee, approximately 623,300 people applied to job placement agencies in 2008. This number is 11.8 percent more compared to 2007.
