Azerbaijan, Baku, March 29 / Trend , I.Khalilova/

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched consultations at the Azerbaijani Tax Ministry to assist in reforming the national tax administration, the IMF Baku office reported.

IMF Expert on Budget Issues Edmund Briber will head the technical mission.

The mission will hold discussions with Azerbaijani tax agencies until April 8.

IMF experts will continue analyzing tax administration, the ministry said.

The ministry is designing a state program to implement tax legislation in accordance with EU 2009-2012 norms. The IMF experts are assisting with updating the draft program.

The IMF experts have been actively involved in reforming the tax system over the past 7-8 years. Their recommendations were considered during the process. The reforms covered all the ministry's branches via an automated tax information system. The application of electronic declarations began in 2007. In late 2008, 88 percent of profit taxpayers and 67 percent of income taxpayers signed treaties on e-declarations.
