Azerbaijan, Baku, April 2 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

Azerbaijan will launch building its own infrastructure of the North-South (Russia - Azerbaijan - Iran) railway project after the Iranian section of the railway will be brought to the border with Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said.

According to him, this will be done so that the two phases of the project were completed at the same time at the border, he said. This is because the amount of work in the territory of Azerbaijan is considerably lower than in Iran

The project also envisages the creation of a joint venture to construct the Qazvin -Resht-Astara (Iran)-Astra (Azerbaijan) railroad between Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. The trilateral joint venture is planning to create shortly. The joint venture will comprise the Russian Railway, Azerbaijan Railway and Iranian Railway Administration.

According to feasibility study of the Research Institute, construction of the Qazvin - Rasht - Astara roads will cost more than $ 200 million.

The North-South transport corridor (edited) envisages unified railway transportation from Europe to India and Southeast Asia via Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

According to preliminary estimates, the project will cost over $400 million.

The cost of the Azerbaijani section has increased.

Preliminary expenditures were estimated at $20 million, but will now reach $30-$40 million.

Fifteen million tons of cargo will be transported each year.
