Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov will head for Amman (Jordan) on May 15 to attend World Economic Forum on Middle East, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said.
"I will attend the forum on Middle East at the request of the president," minister said.
World Economic Forum on Middle East was established within the frames of World Economic Forum in Davos to draw attention of world economy to the Middle East.
The World Economic Forum is a non-governmental organization. The organization was founded at a Geneva symposium attended by 450 heads of leading European companies in 1971. The organization was named European Forum of Management until 1986.
The first meeting of the forum focused on improving Western Europe's position in competitive struggle. The range of matters discussed increased gradually and included political and economic issues, aftermath of scientific and technical progress and debts of developing countries. From mid-1970s, Davos invited influential persons worldwide including government figures and business leaders).
The major WEF event are annual meetings held in world-famous skiing resort Davos in late January and early February (excluding the New York session in 2002 held as a sign of solidarity with the U.S. after September 11, 2001 acts of terrorism).
The annual meeting at the world famous resort is held to discuss the most important political and economic problems in an informal manner. Davos is famous not only that for a few days, it gathers the most influential people in the world - heads of state and governments, global business leaders, prominent scientists and economists and political scientists. It is more attractive with that makes it possible to meet political opponents in an informal manner.
Discussions in Davos already traditionally determine the issues of economic year. The annual WEF meeting in Davos, which took place in January 2009, was the representative for the whole story, since it focused on the issues of global economic and financial crisis, as well as the problems of climate change. The meeting was attended by an unprecedented number of heads of states and governments.
The basic form of WEF's work is seminars on various topics. Within Davos meetings, were held about 300 plenary meetings, seminars and round tables, as well as "mini-summit." No protocols are devised, no speeches are officially recorded and the final resolution is not adopted.
In addition to Davos meetings, the WEF regional summits are held in Central and Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.
