Georgia receives less money from Russia

The volume of money transfers to Georgia in April amounted to $60.7 million with a $22.9- million, or a 27.4 percent less than the same period in 2008.

The National Bank of Georgia said reducing the total amount of remittances was due to a decrease of $19.2 million, or 37.5 percent of transfers from Russia. Remittances also decreased from the Ukraine - by 1.9 million, or 31.2 percent, Armenia - by 1.7 million, or 70.9 percent, Spain - by 0.6 million, or 27.4 percent, as well as from other countries.

In April 2009, Georgia transferred $5.8 million to foreign countries and $7.6 million in April 2008. Transfers to Russia dropped to 0.8 million, or 22.8 percent, as well as to other countries.
