"FameLab-2009" contest finishes

The FameLab-2009 Contest held with the organizational support of the United Kingdom Consulate, the Caucasus University and Azercell Telecom LLC finalizes its work. The contest is a part of the Gozel elm project, the company said.

At the basis of the initiative offered by the United Kingdom Consulate, this event is being realized in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Romania and 9 South-Eastern European countries, including Serbia. The aim of the FameLab Contest is to seek and identify new talents in the field of science communication. 

This national talents' Contest has helped to determine the youth wishing to speak about its work and not the people who are involved in science promotion and having good communication with the scientific community. The objective in organizing the scientific contest is to support also young scholars.

For the first time, the FameLab has been established in the Cheltenham Scientific Festival of the United Kingdom. There is already a third year that such Contest takes place in Azerbaijan. The semi-finals of the current Contest have been held on April 28-29 at the Caucasus University. 30 youngsters who successfully passed the first stage have paid efforts to present to the jury panel their scientific ideas in the creative and original form. Lucky 10 talented young participants of these semi-finals have got an opportunity to go to the final stage.

Ulviya Hasanzade, Head of Corporate Relations and Social Responsibility Department of Azercell Telecom LLC have informed about the mission of the Company which she represented: "Our mission is to maintain, share the existing values and create new ones. In this respect, it is very important for Azercell to support our talented youth".

During the final stage, the participants have presented their 5 minutes long presentation devoted to one of the topics of the contemporary science chosen by them. They have been speaking about very different issues ranging from the light specifications up to the color of electrons and its taste. The jury panel has expressed its opinion by asking questions from the participants about their presentations.

The winner of the final stage Elchin Ibrahimov from the Caucasus University has got an opportunity to participate in the Cheltenham Scientific Festival which will be held in the United Kingdom this June and devoted to the Newton laws. But thanks to Azercell Telecom LLC none of the Contest participants have been left without gifts. Thus, Azercell have presented special presents and memory cards to all 30 participants who passed successfully the first stage. It has gifted IPod-s to 10 finalists. The second and the third place winners -Hafiz Malikli from the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy with his presentation entitled on Why the Sun becomes Red during the sunset? Sarhan Talybzadeh from the Azerbaijan State Architecture and Civil Engineering University with his presentation on the Atmosphere and its Pressure have been offered digital photo cameras. Lala Aslanova from the Azerbaijani Medical University with her presentation named the Infarction has got a DVD player as the participant with the most numerous points in the final. Offering all gifts, Azercell Telecom has chosen Elchin Ibrahimov from the Caucasus University with his work on Newton Laws in the nomination of Azercell's Sympathy and given him a mobile phone as a present.
