Azerbaijani State Standardization Committee monitors children's food and wear

Azerbaijani State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent is monitoring market of children's food and wear, committee's head Ramiz Hasanov said at the annual meeting of the Euro-AsianCooperation of National Metrological Institutions (COOMET) in Baku.

"We have launched monitoring over children's food and wear as Azerbaijan has announced year 2009 "Year of Child". We have already done significant work on wear market. We will continue this work," Hasanov said. He did not disclose facts.

Hasanov said that toys hazardous for health produced specifically in China were withdrawn from sale earlier n Baku.

In February 2008, state standardization agencies which are part of the Interstate Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC) of the CIS have agreed to conduct raids on the market of children's toys.

"Holding such meetings in Azerbaijan shows country's development and government care for this sphere", Hasanov said.

The meetings involved the COOMET participating countries and members of the International Bureau for the Measurement and Weight.  

COOMET was established in June 1991. Its members are metrological institutions of Azerbaijan (since 2007), Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany (associate member), Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, North Korea (associate member), Cuba (associate member), Lithuania, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The organization focuses on cooperation in the field of standards of physical quantities, legal metrology, accreditation and quality management system, information and training.
