Foodstuffs prices up almost 8% in Kazakhstan

Foodstuffs prices increased by 7.8 percent in may 2009, compared to the previous year, the Kazakh Statistics Committee reported.

"In May 2009, prices of cereals increased by 7 percent, dairy products - by 8.3 percent, fruits and vegetables - by 8.7 percent, confectionery products - at 9.4 percent, soft drinks - at 16.4 percent," the agency said.

Meanwhile, according to the agency, prices of bread declined at 0.4 percent, flour - by 4.8 percent, eggs - by 9.2 percent and sunflower oil - by 32.6 percent.

Increase in prices of meat and meat products for the period reached 7.9 percent.

Prices for pork has been higher at 18.2 per cent, sausages - at 13.2 percent, Konin - 6 percent and mutton - at 3.7 per cent
